Meals on Wheels

We provide volunteers from Asbury for the Meals on Wheels program in Madison.  We are responsible for 2 routes every Sunday in April and October.  We also connect people with Meals on Wheels for additional routes throughout the year.  Many families find this a great way to serve together.  Email Vanna Steffen (vsteffen@tds.net) for more information or to sign up!

Homeless Shelter Meals

Asbury provides meals for the Men’s Drop-In Shelter on the Capitol Square at Grace Episcopal Church.  Asbury is responsible for the evening meal on the second Sunday of the even month (Feb, April, June, Aug, Oct, Dec).  Volunteers prepare a main dish or side (recipes provided) to deliver to church on our meal date.  Volunteers to take the food to Grace Episcopal are also needed.  Look for sign-ups in the Narthex on Sundays a week or two before each meal date. We also take men’s clothing to the shelter as well.  Direct questions to Jim Steffen at (vsteffen@tds.net).

Farmer’s Market Gleaning

Asbury provides volunteers to be at the Dane County Farmer’s Market at its close (around 1 pm) several Saturdays each market season.  Second Harvest Food Bank provides us with orange vests and big carts to walk along a quarter of the market (each pair of volunteers) where the farmers (who see these volunteers each week) donate extra unsold produce to the Food Bank. Volunteers spend about an hour collecting the food.  Email Jim Steffen (vsteffen@tds.net) for more information or to join the email list to be notified when we get our dates for the market season.
